Cashmere is expensive and delicate, which means it needs to be cleaned and cared for if it’s going to last for years and years.
Fortunately, it’s not hard to keep your cashmere shawl or scarf looking lovely with a few simple steps – ensuring that it becomes softer with time.
With use, your cashmere shawl or scarf may need to be cleaned from time to time. There are two basic ways to clean cashmere properly.
The most economical and simplest way is to clean your cashmere by hand. Here’s the step-by-step process:
- Carefully and gently handwash your shawl or scarf in cold water using a natural shampoo. I use Sukin.
Don’t stretch or scrub while washing – an easy massaging will do!
- Rinse the garment and let it dry naturally. Gently press the water out of the wet shawl, smooth it out and place it to dry flat on a clean bath towel.
- Once dry, your cashmere will be ready to wear again – clean as new and even softer than before.
CASHMERE CLEANING TIPS
DO NOT wring your cashmere as this will damage the delicate fibres.
DO NOT put your cashmere in a dryer after hand washing as it will shrink and damage. Heat is very bad for cashmere, but if you really need to smooth the creases after it is dry, use your iron on the lowest heat possible.
An Alternative Method for Cleaning Cashmere
An alternative method is to have your cashmere shawl professionally dry-cleaned. Talk to your local dry-cleaner and make sure they have some experience cleaning cashmere.
If you consider the frequency of use, we recommend that you wash your cashmere maybe once or twice in a season.
The softness and warmness provided by the cashmere scarf make it more superior to the usual sheep wool. It, however, requires some special care to keep it in a good wearable condition.
One of the numerous benefits of the cashmere scarf is its adaptability to temperature. In the winter, you are kept warm in your cashmere scarf. While in the summer period, you are sure to feel cool. To take some effort to maintain and you could always enjoy the companion of a good cashmere scarf.
