Our Cream Paisley Pashmina Cashmere Shawl made with 100% Pashmina Cashmere wool is lightweight, fine, yet wondrously soft and warm. It is part of our range of Jacquard Design Hand-loomed Cashmere Shawls.  The beauty of our Jacquard Design Cashmere Shawls is how our craftsmen deftly weave a paisley/floral pattern in the cashmere fabric.  The artistry of the jacquard weave is such that only the best weavers have the skill to weave the delicate cashmere hairs into a superfine garment. It is the refined workmanship and the use of this fabulous cashmere yarn that produces such fine, smooth and impeccably soft cashmere shawl in Jacquard weave.

The Cream Paisley Pashmina Cashmere Shawl is so light that when it is worn you’ll barely know you have a shawl on.  If you are looking for an accessory that stands apart from the rest, this jacquard shawl is like no other wrap!  The delicate nature and wispy thinness of this cashmere wool shawl, does not take away from the fact that it is impeccably soft, yet incredibly warm.  We know it seems hard to believe that something so thin could give such warmth.  You’ll have to take our word on this until you own one and experience the true beauty of fine cashmere.  Even with all its sheerness, cashmere insulates and this is the reason it is still one of the most sought after natural fibres in the world.

Fold this Cream Paisley Pashmina Cashmere Shawl in half and you will have a neater wrap, fold it in half again and you instantly have a lush scarf!  Aside from versatility, our cashmere shawl is the ultimate of convenience.  It’s almost incredible how quickly it folds away and can be put in your purse for another place and time

As this is a hand-loomed cashmere shawl you may find small imperfections in the making of this product.

What is Cashmere?

Pashmina, better known as Cashmere, is one of the softest fibres found in nature. It is obtained from the soft hair that grows on the underbelly, underarms, and chest of the mountain goat “capra hircus”. This goat lives at high altitudes (10,000 to 15,000 feet), above the treeline, where there is little natural protection. Nature has blessed these goats with a thin, short, inner coat of hair (“pashmina”) which is the best natural insulation in the world! With this special inner coat, these goats can tolerate the heart-chilling temperatures of this high mountain climate.

Pashmina/ Cashmere has an exotically silky texture, is almost weightless, and is extremely warm. Its special insulating properties means pure cashmere is up to 8 times warmer and allows the skin to breathe. Wearing it next to the skin provides a uniquely luscious experience, which has been described as sensual sublimity by our ancestors.

Why is Cashmere so soft?

Its fibres are extremely fine – between 13 – 18 microns depending on where on the goat the wool is harvested from.

Also, Cashmere/Pashmina is not a straight fibre- it’s bumpy.  The delicate bumpy fibres in Cashmere cling to themselves so nothing sticks out to itch you. Straight fibres are more likely to stick out (eg Angora)

Why is Cashmere so expensive?

A single goat might only produce 50-80g of cashmere in a year though, so it can take from two to five goats to make a single jumper’s worth of cashmere in a one-year period. there is also the involvement of labour-intensive processes in the cultivation, processing, and gathering of the raw materials needed for making 100% cashmere scarf. The fine cashmere hairs are harvested when the goats begin to shed their winter coats in spring. The course fibres are then removed and the wool cleaned, sorted and bale and sent to the manufacturer. After the maker receives the raw materials the cashmere is then treated according to their chosen process to make your shawl which to preserve the quality is hand-loomed.  We have chosen a supplier who believes in the process of treating your cashmere/pashmina wool with respect.

Where do you source your Cashmere?

I don’t believe that you need to pay excessive amounts to feel good so why should everyone else.  Nepal is the renowned centre for quality Pashmina/Cashmere, so here at Distinct Impressions we have been to the specialists and we have been to the factories in Nepal and personally selected our suppliers based on a number of key factors.  Firstly the product must be ethically sourced, of good quality, a reasonable price and preferable for the money to go straight back into the community. We have sourced without a middleman so that there are no crazy profit margins

At Distinct Impressions, we are honest about our products and the price is indicative of the quality so we will continue to bring you “Pashmina shawls” (please refer to my blog )that are blended material and are generally made in Thailand but when we bring you Cashmere- It is Cashmere and it’s the real deal and it’s from Nepal.
